Initial Disability Equality Scheme |

Leicestershire and Rutland Probation Area's initial Disability Equality Scheme.
Most public authorities, including Probation Areas, have to produce a Disability Equality Scheme. We are pleased to do so and to take this opportunity to describe what we will do to ensure that we achieve real equality for those with disabilities, whether offenders or victims, by meeting their needs and addressing discrimination.
We want to promote the involvement of disabled people in our organisation as volunteers, employees, board members or partners, in the delivery or receipt of services such as Unpaid Work. The talent or potential of many disabled people is not always valued or recognised. We will continue to acknowledge the skills and abilities of people who apply to work with us and will help them to flourish during their careers.
To do this we need disabled people, whether staff, service users or the wider community to tell us where we can improve. We welcome feedback on the scheme and will use it to improve later versions.
