Leicestershire and Rutland Probation Area's Gender Equality Scheme.
Most public authorities, including Probation Areas, have to produce a Gender Equality Scheme under the Equality Act 2006. We are pleased to do so and to take this opportunity to describe what we intend to do to ensure that we achieve real equality for men and women, whether offenders or victims, by meeting their needs and addressing discrimination.
We want to promote the involvement of men and women from every culture and walk of life in our organisation as volunteers, employees, board members or partners and in the delivery or receipt of services such as Unpaid Work. We will continue to acknowledge the skills and abilities of people who apply to work with us and will help all to flourish during their careers with us.
As a high performing organisation committed to providing both quality and equality in the provision of services, we know that we cannot achieve our aims of protecting the public and reducing re-offending unless we provide a service which meets the needs of each offender and victim we work with. This scheme, along with our Race Equality and Disability Equality Schemes will help us to achieve these aims.
We hope that you will take the opportunity to read through our Scheme and provide us with your comments on it so that it can be improved. It is important that employees, service users and our partners are involved in the development and delivery of the scheme as this will ensure that it really has a positive impact on people's lives.
