Leicestershire and Rutland was selected to be in the first wave of six Probation Trusts, which became a reality on 1st April 2008.
The Chief Officer Group has been preparing for the transition during the lead-up to trust status. It is anticipated that in future the Leicestershire and Rutland Probation Trust will operate as the lead provider, procuring support and negotiating contracts with different sectors to meet its objectives in the field of public protection. The promoted values of the Leicestershire and Rutland Probation Trust are:
- Treating all people fairly, openly and with respect
- A commitment to valuing diversity and ensuring equal outcomes for all
- An uncompromising stance against the harm caused by crime
- A strong belief in the capacity of people to change
- The importance of taking personal responsibility for behaviour
- The necessity of learning from experience.
Trust status will give Leicestershire and Rutland new operating freedoms to be more effective in a commissioning environment. Instead of being constrained by an annual budget, the new trust will operate three year financial strategies.
