KEY STATISTICS
On 31st March 2006 there were
543 Registered Sex Offenders living in Leicestershire and Rutland, which is an increase of some 7% compared to last year's figure of 508.
The typical registration period for sex
offenders is intended to be substantial to allow the Police to monitor them for
lengthy periods of time, and the most serious offenders are registered for
life. The overall trend in the number of offenders on the register is therefore
upward.

The proportion of RSOs within the overall
population in Leicestershire and Rutland
has consistently been close to the national average. The requirement to
register on the Sex Offender Register encompasses a very broad range of
offending and - whilst this includes very serious offending - it also covers
many offenders who are not assessed as high risk.
* Up-to-date figures for 2006-2007 will
be published in Autumn 2007. The latest annual report will be featured on this
website.
The most effective way to manage and supervise potentially dangerous offenders in the community is for the relevant agencies to work together. The partnership work is directed and governed by the national Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA).
