Victim Contact Team

Victim Contact Team

The Leicestershire and Rutland Probation Trust has a dedicated team of staff who deal exclusively with victims of crime. The Victim Contact Team work with victims of offenders sentenced to 12 months imprisonment or more for sexual and violent crimes. The team also contact victims of racially aggravated offences whatever the length of sentence handed down by the courts - and with families in cases that may have resulted in death by dangerous driving.

The Home Office stipulates that the victim officers must make contact with 85% of victims within eight weeks of the offender receiving their sentence. In Leicestershire and Rutland, the Probation Service regularly contact 100% of victims by the eight week limit.

Members of the team explain the role of the criminal justice system, exchange information concerning an offender's progress in prison, and represent the views of the victims.

Dear Claire, I just wanted to thank you for the trouble you went through in order to inform me of ***********'s tariff review. It was much appreciated, especially helped by the outcome, giving me peace of mind knowing he isn't walking the streets possibly committing more hideous crimes. Once again, many thanks to all concerned"
