Employment Training & Education
Over half of the people on our caseload are unemployed, and a similar number have basic skills needs. We know that these issues are strongly linked to re-offending so we have a policy of offering help with these problems.
Our Employability team engage, assess and prepare offenders , using our knowledge of available opportunities to improve their chances of gaining employment. The team provide an Information, Advice and Assistance service, and then refer offenders to a range of opportunities in-house or via external partners.
We have a partnership with Leicester College (funded by the Offender Learning and Skills Service) whereby they provide teaching in Basic Skills and ESOL (English for Speakers of another Language) on our premises.
We also work with Leicestershire Cares who, through their network of local employers, offer a two-week placement for offenders who are having problems in finding work.
We also aim to improve the employment prospects of offenders via a number of other routes such as the opportunity to learn skills and obtain a qualification while on supervision.
