Employment Training & Education

Over half of the people on our caseload are unemployed, and a similar number have basic skills needs. We know that these issues are strongly linked to re-offending so we have a policy of offering help with these problems.

We screen new cases for literacy and numeracy and offer them help with these issues if they wish.

We have a long-standing partnership with Apex Leicester Project , who provide Information, Advice and Guidance to our cases. This is available at every one of our offices.

We have a partnership with Leicester College (funded by the Offender Learning and Skills Service) whereby they provide teaching in Basic Skills and ESOL (English for Speakers of another Language) on our premises.

We also work with Leicestershire Cares who, through their network of local employers, offer a two-week placement for offenders who are having problems in finding work.

We also aim to improve the employment prospects of offenders via a number of other routes such as the opportunity to learn skills and obtain a qualification while completing Unpaid Work or a programme.
